Science and technology is man’s best friend today. By holding its hand we have come so far today. There is hardly any aspect of life that is untouched by science. When talking about benefits of science in terms of medical benefits, it is huge.
As mentioned above that with the help of science we have conquered many life threatening diseases and has also saved many lives. There has been knee transplant surgery, kidney transplant and even heart transplant surgeries too. Now there is another addition to this as well and that is “head transplant”. Though there is no such surgery done yet but it is in the pipeline – first person to have head transplant surgery. This surgery would be performed under the supervision of 150 doctors and nurses. A Russian man named Valery Spiridonov has volunteered himself for this transplant procedure. This kind of surgery was tried in 1970 on a monkey, which was not so successful. But a doctor named Sergio Canavaro, who will be a part of this surgery, believes that science and technology will help them this time.
In this transplant, head of the patient is removed and fixed on another person who is brain dead but his body is still functioning. But some doctors believe that the bodies of head transplant patients may become overwhelmed with different lifestyles of body and mind that they are separately used to. It might even make the person insane. Doctors also believe that there are certain issues that are even dreadful than death.
